Pooch Pad by Jacks Plastic Welding

This durable waterproof dog bed is a mini canine version of the renowned Paco Pad, a favourite of raft guides. Read this review of our favourite dogpacking bed.

Overview

The Pooch Pad might be your dog’s next best friend. A mini version of their famous human-sized Paco Pad sleeping pad, Jack’s Plastic Welding has created a winner of a dog pad. Available in a variety of colours, they are made from soft urethane foam coated in PVC-coated polyester. This pooch-specific pad is comfortable, durable, waterproof, easy to clean and it floats. River loves hers and it’s held up to heavy use: at the beach, on the river, in the pool, in the van, on our back deck, at the campsite and in our living room. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a comfy, waterproof dog bed for home use and/or your dogpacking adventures.

Testing conditions

River has had her Pooch Pad since shortly after I discovered Paco Pads for myself a few years ago. River has subjected her comfy pink pad to a lot of love and abuse: bringing it to the beach, using it poolside, having it along on van trips and for car camping, and lounging on it at home. Since it’s entirely waterproof, I’ve floated on it down rivers and she and I have shared it to sit on an eat dinner or watch the sun set.

Our impressions

This might be the best dog bed out there. Despite years of continuous and rigorous use, it still looks pretty new and it just as comfortable as when River first lay on it. River’s quick to lie down on it when we arrive somewhere and toss it on the ground. We’ve had zero issues with our pad. The only drawback is that it’s a bit bulky and it’s light but not ultralight, so not an ideal backpacking or bikepacking companion (although I might get a custom sized one for River’s basket on my bike).
